Born in 1956 in Belgium, Claude Maury studies at the Conservatoire Royal in Mons where he gets the highest distinctions for the modern horn and in chamber music. Then he takes lessons with Francis Orval, André Vandriessche, Michel Garcin-Marrou and Hermann Baumann. He gets his first job in the orchestra of the Opera Royal de Wallonie in 1974, then in 1976 becomes member of the French Belgian Radio and Television Orchestra (R.T.B.F.). In 1981 he is prize winner of the Gallay competition for natural horn in Perpignan, France and in 1984, prize winner of another international competition for natural horn in Bad Harzburg, Germany. In 1985, he leaves the Radio Orchestra to become a free lancing carrer on period instruments. Therefore, he plays on a regular basis with some of the best orchestras and ensemble playing on period instruments, among the others La Petite Bande (Sigiswald Kuijken, Gustav Leonhardt), the Orchestra of the 18th Century (Frans Brüggen), the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (Philippe Herreweghe), Les Musiciens du Louvre (Marc Minkowski), Anima Eterna (Jos Van Immerseel), Les Arts Florissants (William Christie), Opera Fuoco (David Stern) and le Parlement de Musique (Martin Gester). Occasionally, he also plays with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestrata (Ton Koopman), Concerto Köln, Tafelmusik (Jeanne Lamon) The English Concert (Trevor Pinnock), Bach Collegium Japan, etc. He has recorded many solo and chamber music CD's, mainly on natural horn. He is now professor of natural horn at the conservatoire in Paris.
